It seems like the far right has got it’s wish:
Republican Dede Scozzafava has suspended her bid in next Tuesday’s NY 23 special election, a huge development that dramatically shakes up the race. She did not endorse either of her two opponents — Conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman or Democrat Bill Owens.
The decision to suspend her campaign is a boost for Hoffman, who already had the support of 50 percent of GOP voters, according to a newly-released Siena poll, and is now well-positioned to win over the 25 percent of Republicans who had been sticking with Scozzafava.
I guess the message from all this is pretty simple: if one deviates one bit from the current Republican “script” they are a RINO and must be driven out. Only the “pure” can be accepted.
The sad thing is that Hoffman doesn’t even know or care about issues affecting the district he is supposed represent should he win. Scozzafava knew her district, but because of her so-called liberal stances on gay marriage and abortion she is being drummed out of the party.
How Scozzafava was treated makes me wonder how long I will keep the moniker of Republican. I consider myself a pragmatic conservative and will remain one. But I am increasingly finding it hard to stay in a party that does not want me even though I agree with them on more issues than I disagree with them.
The party is headed towards destruction. I don’t know if I want to be there for the end.
Scozzafava endorsed the Democratic candidate and thus reinforced with a massive mistake that RINOS are backstabbers who will do whatever the Democratic Party tells them to do and have no real concern for conservative issues, either fiscal, social, or governance.
Maybe someday the RINOS will figure out a way to sell their Democratic-lite, big government-lite, nanny state-lite, policies. But between the progressives laughing in their face and conservatives despising them, I doubt it will happen.
So let me get this the rightwing spends a month attacking this women calling her every name in the book and then there supposed she endorses the only guy who lives in the District…you folks are a joke! So whose the next victim is it Kay Bailey Hutchinson? What is sad is how so called “Conservatives†stabbed a fellow Republican in the back in order to get a candidate “not living in district†elected. What’s even more astonishing is how the right wing sent in provocateurs from out of the State to undercut local rights.

Hoffman- A Know Nothing
Undoubtedly this raises good questions on his ability to actually represent the district he’s running for. Shouldn’t he know something about them?
Douglas L. Hoffman, the Conservative Party candidate for the 23rd Congressional District seat, offered no position on a few key local issues during a Thursday meeting with the Watertown Daily Times editorial board.
When asked his position on dredging the St. Lawrence Seaway, the candidate offered nothing. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Ohio, lobbied for and received an amendment to a House climate change bill that would establish a federal power-marketing agency in the Great Lakes.
Ms. Kaptur has not explicitly said she wants to expand the system to accommodate bigger vessels, but the proceeds from that agency could be used to fund improvements. The proposal was not included in the Senate version of the bill.
Mr. Hoffman also took no position on allowing winter navigation on the Seaway. Save the River, a Clayton-based environmental advocacy group, has worked against year-round Seaway shipping for more than 30 years, citing the effects of ice breaks on shorelines and wildlife and the potential problems caused by oil spills on ice cover.
The Conservative Party candidate also took no position on Interstate 98, a proposed four-lane rooftop highway that would connect Watertown to Plattsburgh, but said he was “open to reviewing and studying it.”
“Right now, who has the money to spend on it?” he asked, in explaining his decision not to take a side.
Following the meeting, Mr. Hoffman amplified his position by saying he’d like to find out the project’s “real cost” before deciding whether to support it. He said he’d also like to know its impact on communities, the environment and the economy and its benefits in comparison with other proposals.
Mr. Hoffman also reiterated his promise not to accept earmarks.
The meeting also was attended by former Rep. Dick Armey, the former House majority leader who has endorsed Mr. Hoffman.
The Texan told the board that Dierdre K. Scozzafava, the county Republican Party chairpersons’ choice over Mr. Hoffman, would not have won a primary between the two.
“The Republican Party lost this race when they picked that candidate,” he said. “She was a misfit for these constituents.”
Mr. Armey also told John B. Johnson Jr., the Times’s editor and co-publisher, that he respected the newspaper’s decision to base its endorsement on which candidate best grasped “parochial” issues. But he said the election would be won or lost over national issues, such as taxes and health care.

Juan,
If figures that RINOs would attack the conservative in the race while ignoring the Democrat in the race. Why should anyone want to vote for a RINO when there is a liberal Democratic candidate in the race. If people want big government, big spending, and a nanny state, they should always vote for the Democratic Party.
How can anything conservative be accomplished when RINOs like Scozzafava are running the Republican Party.
