The following letter is one of two sent to us by a loyal reader of the blog. They asked to not be named.

Dear Moderate, Liberal and Pragmatic Conservative Republicans,

In regards to the NY-23 issues and results, we must realize what this means. We lost this fight, but the battle goes on in 2010 and beyond. We were not there for Dede and stood up for her. We let the far right whine (as they have been at their Tea Parties) too much and influence the GOP to embrace a candidate that had nothing in common with the constituents of NY-23. As a result, we lost a district that has been ours for a long time.
I’m tired of hearing of how we’re not liked in the GOP and we should form our own party or join the Democrats. To that I say, you are giving the Democrats what they want: a center-right party split in two over social issues when more important issues like the economy and health care are needed to have serious discussions instead of saying “No!” It gives them proof they are truly a united party and will only make them the majority party even longer. Who wants to vote for a party that is tearing itself apart?
We should look at the examples of the Tea Partiers and how they get their message across. No, I’m not suggesting protests of the GOP but we all need to get involved whether it is local or national. Influence the party through writings and new ideas to bring voters back to the party. We almost won the entire U.S in past elections and in 2008; all we won was the South. But however, politicians like Bob McDonnell and Chris Christie showed us center-right ideas win elections while extremism doesn’t.
It took the right 45 years to be the majority of the Republican Party. It will take us time to be the main focus of the party. But remember, the Republicans I addressed in my “Dear” line have contributed to America’s progress in many ways. Let us not forget that.
The battle was lost, but the battle goes on! Go in and fight! Never give up! We can make the GOP win!
