Protect Yourself from the Sun with UV Protection Clothing
We simply think of long sleeves, pants, and hats as sun protection clothing as it can protect us from the direct rays of the sun. We think we are safe from the sun just because of our clothes are able to cover large portions of our skin. Well its pretty safe for us to be wrong for once in our lives though.
It has been proven by research that our light weight clothes are able to be penetrated by ultraviolet rays. Even if you go out in the longest sleeves while wearing the most flowing pants during the summer, you will still be exposed to the sun’s powerful rays and the UV rays that come along with it. The best solution is not long clothing but to wear the proper kind of sun protection clothing instead, also known as UV protection clothing.
By now we all know what happens to us when we are exposed to the sun for too long unprotected, this is due all the scientifically backed research but mainly due to our very own personal experiences.
The proper fabric.
Now that are acquainted with uv blocking clothing, you should know that not all of them are created equally and not all can do the same task as efficiently as the other. Its now your job to choose the right fabric best suited for the task of protecting you from UV rays.
The first thing to discuss is the weave of the fabric itself, as a rule of thumb the looser the weave of the fabric is, the lesser amount of UV protection is provided to the one wearing the garment. To be able to determine the looseness or tightness of the weave, you take the fabric and hold it up to a light source – if a lot of light passes through the cloth then so will sunlight.
The next thing is the color of the fabric itself. You might have noticed darker colored fabric preventing more light from passing through it. This means that black is going to be able to protect you more from the sun than white.
But you can only go so far with color and weave in terms of UV protection. UV protective clothing have been out on the market for some time now and it offers the best amount of UV protection, these clothing is made out of a tightly woven cloth that has been treated with UV inhibiting solutions to provide the wearer with the best protection. UV protective clothing is commonly made out of nylon but some are also made out of other fibers such as cotton and polyester. Unique features found in uv clothing is air vents to keep the wearer cool, and roll up collars to protect the neck.
